PERLANE - DEEP DERMAL WRINKLE CORRECTION
Perlane® for
deeper wrinkles and structural lip augmentation is a clear gel hyaluronic
acid product. Perlane is used for pronounced wrinkles and facial folds
such as the nasolabial folds that run from the sides of the nose to the
mouth and for adding fullness to thin lips.
Perlane is an identical product to Restylane
but with larger gel particle sizes, making it ideal for building
up skin tissue on a deeper level. Perlane can be used either alone
or as a cushion base with
Restylane
of
Juvederm
on top. Two fillers are not always needed for complete correction, but
when indicated, two may be the best choice. By using a product that is
more volumetric as a first layer, as is the case with Perlane, it is
then possible to correct the depth of the wrinkle or fold and allow the
top layer of the more fluid product such as Restylane or Juvederm to
finish the correction for a soft, smooth appearance. Hyaluronic acid
products are ideally suited for layering and complete corrections may
sometimes require both.
Lip augmentation using Perlane
offers a beautiful three dimensional plumpness which is further
sculpted with the vermillion lip border being enhanced by Restylane or
Juvederm.
Filler sensation and touch are important
to how happy you are with your procedures. Both Perlane and
Restylane
are instant, long-lasting, soft and totally natural in touch, feel and
appearance. Perlane is suitable for the following:
- the nasolabial folds
- pre-jowl area
- temple depressions
- cheek area
- lip border definition (vermillion border)
- lip corner uplift
- fuller lips (lip enhancement)
Perlane,
Restylane
,
Juvederm
,
Radiesse
and
Captique
all provide an instant correction to folds, wrinkles and volume loss
in lips and the face. Another product,
Sculptra
, is a volume enhancer that actually triggers the skin to create its
own collagen. This makes Sculptra unique in it's method of causing volume
replacement on a more "global" level in the face. Sculptra
does not have the same instant correction effect as the collagen building
takes place over a number of months, but effects last up to 2 years or
longer.
Hyaluronic acid is a critical component
of youthful-looking skin. Young skin is smooth and elastic because it
contains a large amount of hyaluronic acid. Once hyaluronic acid is lost,
due to age and various environmental factors, your skin is less pliable,
tends to sag and wrinkles form. Aging and the consequential loss of hyaluronic
acid also results in thinner lips and flatter cheeks.
How is a Perlane® procedure performed?
Perlane® is injected directly into your
skin. For ultra sensitive areas such as the lip, a "lip block" is
used to make the procedure comfortable. Other areas typically only require
a topical numbing cream prior to injection.
How long will the results of a Perlane®
treatment last?
Perlane® effects last between six months
to a year. Some injection locations maintain the correction longer than
others.
Will Perlane work for me if I have facial hollows?
To some degree, yes. Perlane can be
used to instantly add volume to the cheek area, the prejowl area and
and temples as well as filing deep wrinkles and folds. If you are experiencing
the hollowness in your face that comes with fat loss, a natural result
of aging for many women and men, your Blue Pacific physician may recommend
the re-volumizer Sculptra mentioned above.

Pre-Treatment Suggestions
Prior to a Perlane® treatment, or any
injection procedure, you should avoid taking aspirin, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory
medication or vitamin E supplements unless prescribed by your primary
care physician. If in doubt, please check with your primary physician
before stopping any medications.
Post Treatment Suggestions
Lip augmentation will likely result in
some swelling. Hyaluronic acid is a water absorbing product and initially
it will draw water from your surrounding tissues, which may make the
lips a bit fuller than you anticipated. This will balance out in a couple
of days. To help alleviate this initial swelling, using cold cloth compresses
will be helpful.
Redness and some minimal swelling in
facial areas is to be expected and this also dissipates within a few
days. Any bruising may take several days longer.
Refrain from going into the sun, do not
take hot baths or go into hot tubs until all redness and swelling is
gone.
